The Initia device emits specific wavelengths of light onto the skin, which are absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted into heat energy, damaging the hair follicle, resulting in permanent reduction of the hair growth.
With standard hair removal treatments, you can feel what is described as the ‘hot flick’ of an elastic band during treatment. However, with the virtually pain-free Initia treatment, you will feel little to no sensation at all. The built-in IceTip technology in MOTION mode allows even more comfort for clients, especially when treating an area with lots of dense and dark hair. The technology can reach temperatures of -8 degrees for extra comfortable treatments.
Initia diode laser technology can safely treat all skin types. Grey and white hairs have no pigment (melanin) so are not suitable for treatment. We recommend a consultation with us to ascertain if the treatment will be successful for you.
The number of sessions required varies from client to client and is dependant on many factors. All lasers can only permanently damage hair in the growing stage. There are 3 stages of hair growth, and there is no way of knowing which stage a hair is in when treating an area, therefore a course of sessions is recommended. Results can be seen after just a few sessions, however, a minimum of 6 treatments is recommended to deliver excellent results. Hair density, hair pigment and hormonal conditions are also all factors.
Yes, we can treat almost all areas of the body, however we are unable to treat areas covered by tattoos or moles.
It’s a fast treatment. The exact duration depends on the size of the area to be treated, ranging from 5 minutes for the upper lip to 35 minutes for a full leg.
No, the international scientific community values the Initia diode laser for the best hair removal results in very few sessions and with less risk of side effects to the skin. There are also different types of laser with different powers, so choosing the right one is important if you want to obtain satisfactory results. For a laser to be effective it should have high power. If less energy is applied in the treatment, the hair follicle will only be weakened, not eliminated. In MOTION mode the IceTip is activated for virtually pain-free treatments, protecting the skin in the treatment area.
This depends on the area being treated but normally treatments are between 4 and 8 weeks apart.
Yes! Laser hair removal is the most effective way of treating ingrown hairs. This is because laser hair removal goes straight to the source of the problem, the hair root, damaging the follicle.
Before treatments you should refrain from sunbathing and the use of self tanners for at least 2-4 weeks. We advise that you arrive at your appointment with the treatment area clean and shaved (the day before), without make up, product or deodorant .
We always recommend avoiding activities which generate excess heat for at least 24 hours after the treatment. This means no exercise, hot baths, showers or saunas as these can trap heat and bacteria in the hair follicles and could lead to irritation. We also advise wearing loose, light clothing following your treatment. We always recommend you wear a broad-spectrum SPF 50 to protect your skin from sun exposure and UV damage.
There are very few contraindications, however during your consultation we will run through your medical history to check this. The most common barriers to treatment are photosensitising medication, pregnancy and breast-feeding.
We throughly explain the procedure and allow you to ask any questions you may have. A full medical questionnaire is undertaken along with an assessment of the areas to be treated to ensure you are suitable for the treatment. A consent form is then signed and a patch test is done. The patch test is carried out to assess your skins reaction, and to determine the settings to be used during your treatment.
